Microaggressions

I am routinely touched when a man needs me out of his way–sometimes with an “Excuse me,” other times without. When I was twelve, I was sexually harassed and touched inappropriately by a male classmate. He often snuck up behind me. Being moved out of the way by a man twice my size, especially if I have not seen his face, makes me afraid. I see this done to women on a semi-regular basis. Never have I seen it done to a man.

I’m a man and I can’t believe how some men think it’s okay to invade a woman’s space in ways they NEVER would with another man, including this kind of thing. If I was a woman, I’d hate it. I can’t think of what else I can say that might be supportive of the OP.

I’ve noticed this lately, like when I’m in a crowded bar and a guy puts his hand flat on my back as he tries to move past me. It gives me the heebie-jeebies. Funny thing though, I tend to do that to everyone, including guys. But then again I was never good with personal space.
